You  may know us for our books on autism, but in honor of Women’s History Month, we thought we would highlight one of the novels published by City Bear Press: How Women Will Change the World: The Journey Continues by Andy McCabe

The novel follows the story of Katerina, who served as scribe to Sapho on the Greek Island of Lesbos 600 years before the birth of Christ. Following a period of 2,000 years, Katerina is reincarnated in Santa Fe, New Mexico as Kathleen O’Malley. O’Malley then becomes an initiate of the Gifted One. While on a remote desert ranch in New Mexico, she prepares to lead a group of uniquely talented women on a campaign to bring about long-needed change. This effort brings her to a Greece that bears little resemblance to the land she knew in her previous life.

The novel finds its in inspiration in the life of Sappho, a poetess who was born circa 615 B.C. and really did live on the island of Lesbos. She came from an aristocratic Greek family, got married and had a daughter. Sappho is remembered by most as a poet, but as Poets.org reminds us, “She spent most of her adult life in the city of Mytilene on Lesbos where she ran an academy for unmarried young women. Sappho’s school devoted itself to the cult of Aphrodite and Eros, and Sappho earned great prominence as a dedicated teacher and poet.”

In antiquity, Sappho was revered for her verses. “Plato called her ‘the tenth Muse’and her likeness appeared on coins,” Poets.org says. Sadly, only fragments of her work have survived.

Dr. McCabe, received his Psy.D. in 1999 from the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers University, is also the editor of Autism Essentials and serves as the president of City Bear Press. McCabe has presented programs on stress management to educators, corporate leaders, police officers, and medical professionals as well as to members of the U.S. Navy.

How Women Will Change the World is the second book in the Gifted One trilogy, which began with The Gifted One: The Journey Begins.

Debra O’Fee Turns Experiences With Autism Into a Book

At the age of 3, Ryan was diagnosed with Pervasive Development Disorder. At the time, I didn’t realize that PDD was autism. When my son was 4, I wasn’t sure what his abilities should be. I decided to keep a journal of what was going on with Ryan. Later, when I would read back, I’d be crying or laughing, or I’d be frightened because I couldn’t believe we had lived through the experience.

We eventually learned that Ryan would elope, which happens in 48 percent of children with autism.
