After her son’s Autism diagnosis at the age of three, Debra started keeping a journal to measure her son’s progress. When she would go back to read some of her prior entries, she’d find herself sometimes laughing, sometimes crying, but always fascinated. Throughout her life, people always told her she “should write a book.”

There has never been a topic about which she really felt passionate … until now.

Sarah Carrasco

Sarah Carrasco is a Coordinator for Talk about Curing Autism (TACA) for the state of Colorado, an educational advocate for children with developmental delays, and has written a curriculum on autism for daycare centers.

She works with her local police department, providing materials to officers pertaining to; recognizing the symptoms of autism, legal rights of people with developmental delays, and wandering.

She lives in Colorado with her three sons, her eldest son David has regressive autism. When David was diagnosed with autism in 2005, he was considered to have a “worst-case-scenario-for-autism” by specialists due to his highly aggressive and self-injurious behaviors and complete lack of verbal communication.

Today, thanks to Sarah’s commitment to a healthy diet and detox, David is considered high-functioning. He is now verbal, learning job and money management skills. He is happy and all the negative behaviors are a thing of the past.

Fr. John Manuel

Fr. John Manuel is blessed to share his life with a loving bride of almost forty years, four children, and ten grand-children. He is honored to serve as a married priest at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and counts himself immensely blessed to work with amazing people. Along the way to the priesthood, he served three parishes as a youth director/pastoral assistant, taught English at a couple of universities, painted homes, drove a taxi, wrote sports columns for a local newspaper, delivered pizza, in short, anything to survive. Fr. John, (“Padre Juan” as he often prefers), believes in making the message of the Christian faith accessible, simple, and readily reflective of the love of God. He apologizes that he cannot make the faith more complicated or difficult for those who want to bear extra crosses. Instead, Padre Juan wants everyone to feel their burdens are lifted, and to smile. He wants them to know that God is with them.

When the weather turns warmer, Padre can be found by the beach, usually tossing bait in the water for the fish to feed upon. He counts his life most blessed when he can share the beach with his bride, children, and grand-children. Fr. John is keenly aware, and most thankful, for how greatly blessed he is.
